Assignment 4 was Layout.
This was surprisingly a lot of fun for me. I normally hate doing environments. Can’t wait to animate them.
The third assignment was character design. I made the Spider Woman more angular, contrasting the round male character.
The second assignment was Storyboard & Animatic. As you can see, these boards illustrate something slightly different than the original concept. The story went from the Spider Woman scaring off the man in order to take his food, the situation changed to the man being scared off for trying to take her food. In order to make the concept to work, I had to find a way to connect the two characters. The easiest way was to make it so these two aren’t necessarily complete strangers. By placing food on the table, I was able to build a relationship between them.
Today I’ll be uploading assignments from my 2D Production class, which walks us through the process of making a 2D short film.
This first assignment is “Pre-visualization”. We were given a basic idea to work around in terms of a story and then create several different thumbnails and one big illustration in order to tell as much as the story as possible.
A sample of animation from two of the films I’ve worked on so far. The shots from She Wolf are currently in cleanup, ink, and color phases.
Work not on this reel - puppet animation and CG animation
